On the Matter of the Lack of Goblinkin...
Question:
I'm curious, is there any disgusting, inbred, warlike subterranean-type race for guilt free slaughter, taking the role of Orcs and Goblinoids on Diomin? -posted on in the Forums by Snoweel, Jan. 30, 2001
Chris responds:
There will be a couple of twisted, fodder races, different enough from the goblinkin of the MM that they will demand new writeups, but similar enough that you could use the stats in the MM for now, until we get the full writeup published.
Basically, all the races that fall into this category are the descendants of a single Arak Clan, the Phoenix Clan. There will be quite the legend to go with it, but here is a summary...
The Phoenix Clan was one of the first sub-clans of the Dragon. For reasons which will be explained later, they exiled themselves just before the Sundering of the Clans, when Kensin exiled the Fallen Ones. The Phoenix clan foresaw war, and fled to caves deep within the earth.
Now, thousands of years changes a people, and the clan grew and split, grew and split. Deep in the earth on Diomin, the darkness has the power to make the subconcious dreams of men twist those men in unforseen ways. In time, the clans took the names of Stones instead of animals. Some became twisted in experiments by the Gadianti. Some fell victim to their own twisted, dark dreams. There are rumors that the true Phoenix clan still lives, unchanged, but no one has ever seen them. The Arak do not discuss them, and indeed, many have never even heard of them.
I have no physical descriptions, save that the creatures that result will be many and varied. All will be twisted versions of the Arak in some way...say they have the blue skin, but are short and pig-like. Other may have blue eyes and reddish skin, and have scales. Be creative. The Darkness changes things, and I am certain when I finish the writeup, there will be ample room for you to be creative.
If you come up with something cool, by all means drop it in an email to us, or post it here. Diomin was never meant to be us dictating what exists. We're happy to publicize cool ideas from you guys.
